$50 vs. $10 Silk Sleep Mask

There are a few things a girl needs to survive in the first world: Food (avocado toast), water (La Croix), shelter (supercute insta-worthy hotel rooms), and sleep (8+ hours nightly of uninterrupted slumber achieved with the help of a 100% silk sleep mask). Is that too much to ask??

I don't think so, but apparently Slip does because they're out here pricing their pure silk sleep masks for $50 apiece. OKAY you caught me, I own one of them. But I can't say it didn't hurt to pay enough for a sleep mask to cover 1.5 gel manicures!

Enter Amazon, AKA dupe Eden. I knew that Amazon would offer an alternative for the massively overpriced Slip silk sleep mask, but the question was: how would it measure up?

WELL FRIEND, I set out to find the answer.

Amazon came through as it always does, and I made my selection: a (Prime eligible) silk sleep mask with 4.4 stars based on 11,400 customer reviews and counting, all for the modest price of 10 American dollars.

First Impressions:

I have had, used, and loved my Slip sleep mask every night for the better part of a year, so I feel fully qualified to make a comparison between the two masks. Upon my first look, the mask part of the Amazon one is definitely larger, which could be good or bad depending on how much coverage you're looking for. One thing I liked at first glance was that the nose part is pretty deeply cut, which is a pro for me because I hate the feeling of eye masks that press down on my nose.

As far as silk softness, they're essentially equal in my opinion. If I had to say which one is softer, I'd go with the Slip, but the difference is barely discernible.

Comparison:
  • Size: Like I said above, the Amazon version is larger than the Slip one. The difference in size doesn't really matter to me in this case, but if you want to cover more or less facial real estate, keep that in mind.
  • Strap: The strap of the Amazon mask is adjustable, which is a HUGE plus for me. The first thing that wears out on sleep masks is the elastic in the strap, so the fact that you can tighten this as it stretches out is great. Also, we don't all have the same head size, so being able to adjust is makes it a good option for more people. I usually wake up with the mask having fallen off during the night, but I have less of an issue with that with the Amazon mask since I can make it tighter. You can also control the pressure on your eyes if having the mask too tight across your face drives you crazy. The pro that the Slip mask has that the Amazon one doesn't is that it's fully covered with silk, so it won't damage or crease your hair.
  • Silk: They really are equally soft, I don't notice a difference when wearing them.
  • Options: They both come in different colors in patterns that are super fun. The price for the Amazon one fluctuates by a few dollars depending on what style you get, but never exceeds $15.

Overall:

My final thoughts are... the Amazon mask is a GREAT option if you're not ready to drop $50 on the Slip one. I wouldn't say that either of them are any "better" than the other, it basically comes down to personal preference. The adjustable strap on the Amazon one is a MAJOR selling point for me. I think they're both a great as a gift. The Slip one is definitely bougier if you wanna make your mom/sister/girlfriend feel special, while the Amazon one is good if you're getting a bunch for a group of people and you want to all match without spending hundreds of dollars. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Amazon mask in comparison to the Slip one, and I definitely recommend both.

Sweet dreams!!
