Hi! Today I'm excited to be sharing a family recipe for "marble bars" that my Granny Baker taught me to make. This is probably not an original recipe, but my Granny B. made it dozens of times when I was growing up, so I will always attribute it to her. It's a recipe that my family knows by heart, but I wanted to immortalize it on the blog so that you can try it too!
These bars are seriously hard to stop eating - they have a similar crispy and chewy quality to Rice Krispy treats, but with the delicious addition of peanut butter and chocolate marbled throughout, hence the name "marble bars!" They're no-bake and only have 6 ingredients, I know you'll love them as soon as you try them! They're great to bring to gathering or cookie exchanges, especially with the holidays coming up.
These are "traditionally" made with Corn Flakes, but you can really use any cereal that sounds good to you. My granny has also made them with Rice Krispies, Cheerios, and even Cocoa Pebbles!
Marble Bars
Ingredients:
- 1c light corn syrup
- 1c granulated sugar
- 1c creamy peanut butter
- 1c chocolate chips
- 6c corn flakes (or cereal of choice)
- Butter to grease the pan
Directions:
- Thoroughly butter a 13"x9" pan and set aside.
- In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine the corn syrup, sugar, and peanut butter. Stir until everything is well combined and the sugar begins to dissolve. Keep stirring to make sure that nothing burns and the sugars do not begin to crystalize - if the mixture starts to bubble, it's probably done.
- Once the peanut butter mixture is ready, take the pan off of the heat and add the corn flakes and chocolate chips. Fold everything together until well combined. The chocolate chips will begin to melt creating a marbling effect.
- Once everything is combined, press the mixture evenly into your buttered 13"x9" pan and let everything cool and set for a few hours.
- Cut and enjoy!
I hope you have a great weekend! I have a busy couple of months coming up (as I know most of us do!) so I'm hoping to enjoy a laid back weekend. Kenny and I will probably do a hike tomorrow, and then we are celebrating my brother's birthday on Sunday.
