When it comes to snacks, cookies get most of the shine this time of year, but a holiday spread would be lacking without something salty to complement all of the sweet! I love having something savory to munch on, and this Chex mix has become my go-to over the past couple holiday seasons. It's way better than store-bought, super buttery, savory, toasty, and extra crunchy. It's fun to serve at gatherings, gift to friends and family, and snack on at home.
The best part about this recipe is you can customize the ingredients to include whatever sounds good to you. I've added cashews, oyster crackers, and sesame sticks before, and you can really add any salty crunchy thing you like, as long as the "dry" ingredients add up to about 17 cups.
Chex Mix
Adapted from The Novice Chef
Ingredients:
- 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, melted
- 2oz ranch dressing mix (the powder)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 5 cups rice Chex
- 3 cups mini pretzels
- 3 cups bagel chips
- 3 cups Cheez-Its
- 2 cups Goldfish
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 225° and prepare 2-3 cookie sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, mix together Chex, pretzels, bagel chips, Cheez-Its, and Goldfish.
- In a heat-safe bowl, melt the butter. Whisk in the ranch dressing mix, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and cayenne pepper until everything is well mixed.
- Drizzle butter mixture over the Chex mixture a little at a time and gently stir everything together after each addition so that everything is evenly coated.
- Distribute the mixture evenly on your cookie sheets. Bake for 45 minutes to an hour until the mixture is slightly toasted, stirring every 15 minutes. If you have the cookie sheets on separate oven racks, switch them every time you stir the mix to prevent one sheet from getting more brown than the other.
- Let mix cool completely and transfer to an airtight container.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend! I have a busy one, and then it's full steam ahead to Christmas next week! I love having so much to do, but gosh I am sleepy! 😂
