Hi! Kenny and I recently went to Duck, North Carolina with my brother and his girlfriend Carmen to celebrate her birthday. She has a friend who has a house down there that she visits from time to time, and they were letting her use it for her birthday weekend. Carmen and my brother invited Kenny and me to join them a couple of days before they left - I normally never do anything so spontaneous, but the stars aligned and we had a great time, so I wanted to do a quick recap for memory's sake!
Our friends got there on Thursday, Kenny and I met them Friday just before sunset and walked down to the sound side of the peninsula. There wasn't much sun but it was still beautiful!
Many bubbles were blown - it was super windy and the bubbles were crazy. 😂
After sunset, Kenny picked up a couple of pizzas and we had this beautiful raspberry roll cake that Carmen's mom made!
Then we had a hot tub night - we played music and talked and sang for hours! Carmen had an app that took disposable camera-style photos and we took about a million of them over the course of the weekend.
This hammock under the house we stayed in was the nap spot of choice for the weekend.
I have been to the Outer Banks many times, but never in the springtime. I was shocked and delighted to see daffodils blooming right out of the sand! I also hadn't spent a ton of time in Duck in general before this trip, but it has all the charm of a town that Nicholas Sparks would center a novel around. Many of the homeowers around the house we stayed in were year-round residents, and I could not stop thinking about what a DREAM that must be!
On Saturday, we went down to the beach in the morning. The house we stayed in had a great location right in the middle of the peninsula - you could look one way and see the sound, and the other way and see the ocean!
This was the best March day ever. 😍 Perfect weather at my favorite place.
We made Carmen a sand cake for her birthday!
More bubbles were blown!
I adore these girls! Since I didn't grow up with sisters, I LOVE being an honorary sister with as many girls as possible.
On a beautiful day, Kenny is rarely without a football to toss!
We had beach mimosas and they were MUCH better than inland mimosas!
I made a paper crane and Carmen made paper boats - I need a tutorial from her!
After oysters, we walked back to the sound for sunset!
After sunset, we headed back to the house to make dinner. I ended up
People always say you never forget how to ride a bike, but I am RUSTY since not consistently riding one since high school. 😂 My brother and Carmen are experts!
On Sunday we were going home, but we had to take advantage of one last morning at the beach.
We lovingly referred to the beach as "dead fish beach" all weekend because there were a bunch of dead fish washed up! A local told us that a cold snap had killed a bunch of fish that had been washing up over the last couple of weeks. Gross!
Goodbye, Duck! We had the best 45ish hours in the Outer Banks, and I CANNOT wait to return in a few short months. 😍
